I’ve Been Hiding Behind Old Headshots — Maybe You Have Too

I’ve Been Hiding Behind Old Headshots — Maybe You Have Too

I don’t know who needs to hear this (actually, I do — it’s probably you and me), but we need to stop hiding behind that one good photo from 2021.

You know the one. The lighting was perfect, your hair had accidentally done the thing, and the outfit made you feel like a boss. So you’ve kept using it — for your bio, your WhatsApp profile pic, your “Hey I’m Tamlyn and here’s what I do” page. Over and over. Because showing up online in your actual, current, unfiltered state feels… well, kind of vulnerable.

Believe me, I get it.

I’m a content creator. A photographer. I literally teach people how to show up online with confidence — and even I find it hard. There are days I’d rather hide behind the camera than post a Reel with my face in it. I want to say, “This isn’t my good angle,” or “Just ignore the frizz, it’s been a week.”

But here’s the truth: people connect with you. Not your logo. Not your curated Canva grid. You!

And the easiest way to build that trust? A good headshot. Not the stiff, awkward kind with a white backdrop and fake laugh — but one that actually feels like you. Personality-filled, a little playful, beautifully styled but not overdone. The kind of photo that makes someone say, “Oh, I feel like I already know you.”

That’s exactly why we started the Portrait Pop-Up over at the TYME COLLECTIVE.

We ran it last year this time and its time for this years, NEXT WEEK!

It’s 30 minutes. It’s in Joburg. It’s on an actual organic farm (yes, really — it smells like fresh herbs and ambition). And it’s the quickest, most low-pressure way to update your content, whether you’re a small business owner, a freelancer, a creative, or just someone who’s tired of hiding behind an old photo that doesn’t feel like now-you.

We designed these sessions to be different. Natural light, great styling tips, zero pressure to pose like a LinkedIn robot. It’s the kind of shoot I wish I had done for myself six months ago. And full disclosure? I’m booking a slot too because these recycled headshots of ours have officially done their time.

So if you’ve been feeling like it’s time to show your face but the thought of planning a full brand shoot makes you want to run — this is your sign. We’ve got just a few spots left for next week.

Let’s stop hiding. Let’s show up in the most beautifully us way possible.

See you in the studio!
